Are you talking about using github as a wiki, or the github wiki?

The github wiki (https://github.com/youraccount/yourrepo/wiki) supports far more than just markdown and has a full blown gui. The limitation, a deal breaker for me, is that it is not hierarchical. You can create directories, but you can only have one document with a given name across all directories and subdirectories.

This is really unfortunate, as it had everything else:
- wysiwyg interface
- history in git, which means you can work offline, merge etc...
- if you already use github, then authentication is solved
- not a fly by night hoster

If the directory issue doesn't bother you, you should have a close look.
