Thank you for asking! In a volunteer organization, people have a very limited amount of time to spend on the organization. It may be only 1-2 hours per week. If that time is consumed by side-projects and low-priority things then the high priority things don't get done. Think about things at work. Do you complain, "I am flooded with little projects and never get around to doing the big things"? I know I do. Well, big things don't happen unless we take time to make them happen. That means ignoring the little things for a bit. A common complaint about LOPSA is "it doesn't get anything done". This is an unfair complaint. The reality is that LOPSA gets a million little things done. Many of them are dealing with emergencies that come from outside the organization. Many are self-inflicted distractions that come from within the organization. As a result, it is rare that LOPSA gets any one big thing done.
