I'm not sure how long you've been a member, but this is one of the things that did happen more frequently in previous years. It's just been a while since we've had a sponsor make use of the (1 or 2 times a year) benefit. As Matt said, it's a benefit offered to LOPSA sponsors, and the fact that you're seeing such announcements again in some ways is actually a really good thing since it means LOPSA indeed has new corporate sponsorship to both show support of LOPSA as an organization and provide resources to help with organizational goals. I'm no longer on the board and I can't currently speak to the "opt out" situation, but regarding the policy, see the following two related items. First, the actual policy: https://governance.lopsa.org/LOPSA_Policies/Sponsorship [...] The Development Committee may, at its discretion * create differing levels of recognition based on sponsorship source, type, or amount [...] and what the committee has set (and published) for sponsorship rewards (as already linked to by Matt): https://lopsa.org/Sponsorships See the last bullet item in each of the Gold and Platinum sponsorship levels that mention email to members as an option. Overall you should actually see this message as a sign of health of LOPSA, at least I do and though I have no need of their service, I definitely welcome them as a LOPSA sponsor! -philip
