An ED changes nothing with regards to the "Relying on volunteers". An
ED isn't a "doer", they're a "manager".

You are still at the mercy of the availability of the volunteers, and
there is still going to be issues with continuity (since volunteers
are not always as good at clean hand-offs to later volunteers, and an
ED doesn't really change that).

An ED is best thought of as more like a cat-herder type role.
