I just want to chime in, "me too".

- - Slack is not in any way a good replacement for the e-mail mailing list

- - Slack is a *PHENOMENAL* replacement for the IRC channels on
Freenode. Why?

- -- Better interface that appeals to many/most
- -- IRC interface (luddites who don't want to change can just connect
to the slack server via the IRC protocol)
- -- It can be "ours", as opposed to us just sitting on a large
multi-community thing. (Yes, slack has a number of communities but
they are isolated from each other). This means... no more goddamned
spambots!
