I could see some risk, if you have patch panels and everything everywhere is all Cat6a, but you have a few Cat5 cables going to this old KVM, then one day you forget they're Cat5 and you plug one of those cables into something that needs 1Gb or 10GigE. But if you get rid of all the Cat5 cables, and just plug Cat6 cables into your old KVM, that should eliminate the risk while simultaneously doing everything you want, no? I haven't seen a lot of KVM's in recent years. I see iLOM's everywhere, instead. So I'm no help if you just want a new KVM for the sake of upgrading the KVM. I would have said APC for PDU. But now Derek is laughing at me. ;-) FWIW, in the past, I had another IT guy laugh at me for "wasting money" on APC smartups where he wanted to use cheaper TrippLite UPS's with the same ratings. He got his TrippLite, and then paid the consequences for it, because when one UPS died, all the servers demanded power from the second, which overloaded it and killed it too. That sort of failure happens on cheaper stuff, and doesn't happen on Smartups. ;-) So there! (Except smartups SC, which I understand, means "super crappy") _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [email protected] https://lists.lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/discuss This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
