You sure it's not just a 568-A vs 568-B thing?

Yeah, the problem I have is that the KVM (an old paragon I unit) only works over cat5 cable. I called the vendor to confirm this when it stopped working when I tried to use it with my new cat6 infrastructure. Even the newer paragon switches only work over cat5. Something is even different between cat6 and cat5 that it breaks some KVMs.

You can run a cat5e patch from a cat6 panel. Or you can run a Cat6 patch
to any rj45 port. It should "just work". You don't need to replace
stuff. The rj45 end is the same:

Also, if you do want to change PDUs anyway, I second Derek's vociferous
support for ServerTech. Apc is second. Geist has some less expensive and
budget offerings that may work for you with features.

Avocent also, ++
(I still like the Cyclades ACS series that Avocent bought, and you can
still find them on ebay)

Skylar,

The only reason is that all my patch panels are cat6a (I only have one
in each rack) is for standardization and future proofing (if there is
such a thing). Thanks for your feedback on vendors.

Maybe this is a silly question, but is there a reason to run Cat6 to
KVMs and PDUs at all? They're not doing 10GbE, and Cat5 has advantages
over Cat6 (a bit cheaper, a lot more flexible) if you don't actually
need Cat6.

As far as your second question, I don't have a favorite PDU
manufacturer, but APC is less awful than the competition, and has the
biggest selection of PDUs. We've tried Eaton as well, but getting useful
information over SNMP from them is just about impossible.

    Hi,

I am redoing my server with cat6a and fiber cabling throughout to
support 10GB. A side effect of this project is that I need to
replace my KVM (only works on cat5) and PDUs (old ones conflict with the fiber patch panels). Right now my leading candidate is a company called Rackmountmart that sells a Matrix KVM (made by Aten I think)
    and PDU made by Infrapower.

    So my questions are:

    1. Has any used equipment from these companies and how well did
it work?

    2. Do you have any favorite vendors for KVMs or PDUs?

    Thanks,

    ski
