Skylar,

The only reason is that all my patch panels are cat6a (I only have one in each rack) is for standardization and future proofing (if there is such a thing). Thanks for your feedback on vendors.

cheers

Maybe this is a silly question, but is there a reason to run Cat6 to
KVMs and PDUs at all? They're not doing 10GbE, and Cat5 has advantages
over Cat6 (a bit cheaper, a lot more flexible) if you don't actually
need Cat6.

As far as your second question, I don't have a favorite PDU
manufacturer, but APC is less awful than the competition, and has the
biggest selection of PDUs. We've tried Eaton as well, but getting useful
information over SNMP from them is just about impossible.

    Hi,

I am redoing my server with cat6a and fiber cabling throughout to
support 10GB. A side effect of this project is that I need to
replace my KVM (only works on cat5) and PDUs (old ones conflict with
the fiber patch panels). Right now my leading candidate is a company
called Rackmountmart that sells a Matrix KVM (made by Aten I think)
    and PDU made by Infrapower.

    So my questions are:

    1. Has any used equipment from these companies and how well did it work?

    2. Do you have any favorite vendors for KVMs or PDUs?

    Thanks,

    ski
