right now, our actual limits are "don't worry about it, we'll limit you if you get out of hand"

but I'd like to set expectations a little better.

Here is one proposal: to limit everyone to something (900Mbps? 500Mbps?) something below 1g all the time, then setup some sort of reasonable limit... if you go over that reasonable limit, I limit your port down to something smaller, like your port becomes 100Mbps, or even 10Mbps, (perhaps depending on the size of the VPS you buy.)


Should we set this limit based on total transfer?  95th percentile?

My impression is that if we set a real (and realistic) limit we are setting higher expectations for our network. (and right now, we're using very little of our network, so we should set expectations higher than they are now.)


I just wanted to start a conversation; if you've got other ideas, let me know.

Right now, I'm probably not going to buy more network, just 'cause we aren't using what we've got now, and we're sweating pretty good to get everyone upgraded hardware-wise.
