I did the Genius thing too last night. It's not based on MusicIP. It will only recommend music that is available on iTunes, which can be annoying if you have more eclectic tastes. OTOH, MusicIP can identify every single song in your library and let you create mixes based on every song. Genius can't do that. However, if you do purchase a lot of music on iTunes, I can see how it would be useful.
