Squeezebox doesn't control iTunes. It can integrate with the iTunes library, but it doesn't actually control iTunes at all. The iPeng application for the iPhone/Touch (or any of the other similar apps) are wireless and don't require line of sight. These applications will control the volume of the Squeezebox.
