My system is an Atom single-core 1.6MHz (Intel 945GC) with 2GB RAM, although only 1.6GB is available because 0.4GB is allocated to a virtual machine, which was suspended while running these tests. The OS is Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop, and running SBS is about all the machine does.
The directory scan time is about 22% faster, although on my small library of 5132 tracks that's less than one minute. Other aspects of rescan are basically unchanged before and after the tweak. Total scan time is 11% faster, or almost exactly 1 minute out of 10:39.
