I've retired my Tomato-ed WRT54GL recently - it wouldn't handle my 50mbps internet link. After some research I realized its the time to stop using consumer crap, and I switched to pro- wired router, which happens to be incredibly powerful, feature-rich, and yet very inexpensive.
