Roku implemented the slimproto without a license and I think there have been other clients for other hardware such as Chumby and mclient with MediaMVP box.
The problem has been the 3rd party hardware vendor has to play catch up with Logitech as slimproto gets tweaked in different versions. This can take a lot of effort.
