Controlling a receiver from SqueezePad is much easier. In the past people did that with the IRBlaster Plugin (see here: http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.php/IRBlaster), but that isn't supported on the newer Squeezebox devices anymore. Anyway: the IRBlaster plugin captures the volume up/down signals from the remotes.
