I don't understand all the details either , a bit of both execution and the dlna/upnp itself these players rarely sync and probaly not with another dlna/upnp player of another brand . Some manufacturers have done thier own extension to allow sync ( Linn ). Mostly they build players going for the lowest common denominator making it to simple , probably some cheap of the shelf implementation . Hifi manufactures for example never seem to understand the amount of work and money you have to put in to the software ? Actually as JRiver is a software company ? Potentially they could do better . It supposed to be a standard ie you can have several different servers players and controllers , but you rarely see anything but basic functions and a lot of proprietary extensions if they are not very basic . And then there is the controllers ? I don't get that at all in upnp world . I have installed several upnp players on my iPad they are all very silly and primitive when you are used to iPeng or SqueezePad . There was an entertaining tread some years ago in the dev section where this was vented . The technical details eludes me . But it goes something like that dlna/upnp potentially can do all stuff we want but no ones doing doing it because it's very hard to do . You rather do you own code for sync and end up with an proprietary solution . There is nothing wrong with your own specialised software either . Both squeezeboxes and Sonos use this aproach to get things done their way . Actually I think slim proto and our server in its many names actually predates upnp/dlna with a couple of years :) Hmm a pity that never though off pitching this as a standard back then ? -------------------------------------------------------------------- Main hifi: Touch + CIA PS +MeridianG68J MeridianHD621 MeridianG98DH 2 x MeridianDSP5200 MeridianDSP5200HC 2 xMeridianDSP3100 +Rel Stadium 3 sub.
