I do what you want to all the time on different usb dacs, for example questyle cma400, cma twelve and Steinberg Dac. I alway turn off the dac and when I turn it on, I'm able to play music. Have you tried the -C 1 option on squeezelite. Maybe there is something special about your dac or your insralltion of pcp. Generally it works, at least for me. What type of dac is it? Regarding spotify I have no ideas since I use quobuz. This works like a charm with the lms-connect app for the 3rd-party-sotware area in this forum.
