The issue could be, as you suggest, related to security settings -
check by turning off the security software and retrying?

I'm not sure whether the specific factors affecting the automatic
startup problem have been identified. In my own case, startup
mysteriously returned to normal, seemingly of its own accord: was it a
new nightly; a Windows update; a change in my security system? Who
knows?!!)

One matter that gave me grief for a while was permissions in Windows:
assuming you're using Windows, open Settings / Control Panel, and click
on the Administrative Tools icon. Open Services, and scroll down to
Slimserver. Dbl Click it. Then make sure that 'Startup type' is set to
Automatic. Then, if you use a passworded account to log on to Windows,
open the "Log on" tab, set it to "This account" (click the radio
button) and enter the username and password you use to log in to
Windows.

Reverse out, clicking Apply and OK as appropriate.

If Slimserver hasn't started by itself, right click the Systray icon
and select 'start'.

Do hope this helps. (Alternatively, chanting incantations over your SB
while rattling some bones might!)

Very best wishes.
