I have tried it again and I am pretty sure I am doing the right thing and it is still vey unreliable. I hold the FF key down for a couple of seconds and it says "Now scanning 2x". If I press the FF key again for a couple of seconds it scans at 4x and if I press play then it starts playing. This is when it is behaving. About half of the time however it does something unpredictable. The SB3 display always says that it is doing what I would expect it to do, but in practice it is doing something else. Often the music stops playing, sometimes it also jumps forward in infrequent big steps every few seconds, sometimes it stops altogether, and sometimes it seems to go to the beginning of the track, and stops. Everything else works very well on the setup.
