X-10 hardware is cheap. It's clunky. It's loud. But if you need something like PowerSwitch and your headphone outs are toast, look at my BottleRocket plugin.
Oh, yeah, if you have a Windows system it can support Insteon, which is more expensive, reliable, and nicer than X-10.
