Makes sense - thank you. 

You know what though - I'd like to have a choice of what goes into
firmware - like little check-boxes on installation or something -
anyone from SD know if this is possible? 

Also, you can encode to ALAC on something other than iTunes - I use EAC
and a command line ALAC encoder.
