Out of interest dd-wrt supports all versions of the WRT54G/L/S. For V5
hardware and newer it's a two step process, replace the VxWorks image
with a new boot loader and then use that to flash the dd-wrt image.
You can even reload the original firmware on it. I have a old v3.1
which has been running dd-wrt for ages, never touch it, just keeps
working.

I just bought a Version 8.2 which I immediately upgraded to
the latest dd-wrt v24 release. Works great. I use it as a client
bridge for an SB3 wired only.
