I do not beleive that the Fire Codes allow that at all. The problem is
not a the two ends, but in the junction box in the middle. A green (or
green and yellow) wire is always ground. This is opposed to neutral,
while also being at ground potentiali, which carries current.

Some installations use bare copper as ground.
