FUD.

- You do not need a management server

The only thing you really need a management server for is if you want
to do more "enterprise" grade stuff (VMotion, moving VMs automatically
from one host to another, etc.). If you just want the virtualization
aspects, ESXi is a great solution with no management server needed
(indeed, I've recently deployed a dozen ESXi hosts which have no
management server at all... the aforementioned "web farm" ESX hosts).
And I would wager that a lot of "small shops" probably don't need the
enterprise feature set.

- You do not need Oracle DB

In the previous iteration of VirtualCenter (and, as I understand it,
in the newly released version as well), it comes with a "MS SQL Lite"
install which is capable of handling most small shops' needs. Or you
can backend it with a full MS SQL Server as well.

There's also talk that there will soon be a Linux version of the
management server as well, which I would presume will probably speak
MySQL... But that's just speculative right now until something is
officially announced.

Cheers,
D
