I disagree for two reasons: 1) I have met people who do absolutely nothing with computers outside work, but were the few who spent 100% of their time at work on work related issues, and were far better sys admins than everybody else around them. 2) it's a double edge sword... What if your tinkerer is trying to build some mega cluster at home, and that's all they can think about while at work? Having said that, I do think it is a good idea to ask a sys admin how they manage their network at home. Maybe they don't want to do it and just paid a bit more to get something fancy from their ISP (you just learned that they are a pragmatic person), maybe they never gave any thought about backing up their personal data and digital photos (huh, do you still want to hire them), maybe they do tinker, and learning about their network will tell you how creative / resourceful they are, learning how they dealt with the limitations inherent to a home network. -- Yves. http://www.SollerS.ca/ xmpp:[email protected] _______________________________________________ Discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/discuss This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
