This would be a *real* kick in the pants if it's true. It wouldn't surprise me if it were, but man what a b*tch this would be. There's still loads of improvements that *could* be made here, and if they drop/cut back too much, they're going to loose what momentium they've gained in the fight to gain equal access to computers they've already gained. Many folks already think vo is simply a stop gap measure from apple, and if they do this, those folks are just going to shrug, smile, and say "I told you so." Not good no matter how you look at it. it may be "good enough" but it's not great, and the problem with screen readers is that they *have to be* great to gain the masses approval. No chance they'll release the code as open source though, since that would give too much information into the internals of the workings of the OSX, and it would allow 3rd-party developers to mangle the way it works as well, basically nullifying the work Apple has already done. Sure, some might try improving it, but there's too many that would adapt it for their needs/wants, and never give a consideration to those of us who actually *need* it, and that could spell disaster. *grumble* Well, let's hope this isn't true, and hope for the best, though like I said, if it is true, there's no surprise here, only profound disappointment.

I was told today from a rather reliable source that Apple has cut back on continued development of VO. I mention this here because it does concern me. And maybe we all need to contact apple.

It's not that they are going to discontinue the project, but rather feel it's 'good enough' so no further resources need be allocated to it's development.

There still needs to be a great deal of work on both VO, and on the Zoom feature. The tracking of Zoom, sucks. It just doesn't work much of the time, like as I type this message.

maybe Apple should release the code as Open Source...
