I own a Mac Mini and a MacBook that I otherwise wouldn't have. Apple's certainly making money from me because of VO. By pushing it, and raising awareness, they will generate interest in Mac in the VI community, and then VI persons will, in time, switch to Mac if they like what they hear. I'm quite sure Apple makes money from selling Macs. *smile* VO is free with the purchase of Mac OS/X, and so is iLife, iTunes, etc. They certainly tout those other products that, by your logic, aren't making them any money either.
