Hi James,
I demonstarated TIger on the RNIB stand at Sight
Village a couple of years ago. I got a lot of support
from the RNIB at the time but their interest seems to
have wained. I also talked to some of the European
Sales people at Apple suggesting that S.V.was an
excellent place to launch the latest version of
VoiceOver and a new generation of Mac users. That was
all over 2 years ago and how things have changed. HA
HA.
There just doesn't seem to be the commitment to
promote a fantastic product to a minority. Although
VoiceOver could be used by so many people, not just
the Partially sighted and Blind.

We seem to be getting very different information
Greg, although, I am

than I am the UK
venders.
I really do think Apple should have represented
themselves at Sight
Village, it would have ben a good opportunity for
them to show the
mac to a wide audience of Blind and Partially
Sighted people. I am
thinking of perhaps seeing if i can get a place at
SV 2008 to show
the OS leopard with its improved accessibility, as
well as Leopard
more generally.
What do you think?

Here is some more information from stateside.
Humanware: I must say I find Humanwares response
to Apple
inconsistent. I just released iStream a Mac
utility to their Stream
reader. They seemed cool to the idea that people
would use the
Stream with a Mac. Their BrailleNote devices, but
not the
BrailleNote BK, will connect with Mac using
MissingSync software
from Mark/Space
GW Micro's BrailleSence is fully compatible with
MAC with
MissingSync software.
Freedom Scientific has been working closely with
Apple and myself.
Their PACMATE devices are fully compatible and I
have tested them
quite extensively. I know they are sending braille
displays to
Cupertino.

Hi folks,
I have just come back today from the Sight
Village technology
exhibition in Birmingham UK. It has run for the
past fourteen
years, and it was a very interesting experience.
I had a look at a lot of interesting stuff, but I
spent yesterday
afternoon quizzing the by three; Humanware, GW
Micro, and Freedom
Scientific about any plans they might have to
allow Apple to
support their products.
Humanware UK, did not know anything, they did not
even seem aware
that Apple was endeavoring to do this. Although
they did seem
genuinely interested.
Dan Weirich of GW Micro also seemed interested,
and said that the
would find out, so i will be in contact with him
shortly to see
what, if anything, he has found out.
Now for the really interesting news. According to
Jonathan Mosen
and one of his colleagues - possibly Eric
Dammery, not sure -
Apple have been in contact with Freedom
Scientific to see what can
be arranged. According to what I've heard, it
looks quite likely
that Freedom Scientific' displays will be
supported, but don't
take this as absolute proof please!!!
All the best
Take care
James
