Hey Esther. Thanks for the tip. I had no idea there was a command to
update all podcasts. Though I did think it was weird that there was a
way to do it in applescript, and not a command in the actual program.

Hi Darcy,
You don't need an Automator action or AppleScript to update all
podcast feeds. There's a keyboard shortcut that will make iTunes
resync all RSS feeds:
Command+Option+Right Bracket will cause all your podcast feeds to
resync at once. This command also has the side effect of opening
all podcast folders
Resyncing the podcast feeds is more than updating them, though it
also works to update your podcast feeds
1) It refreshes all the information on podcast episodes - this is most
useful when a wrong or defective episode was posted. If you
downloaded
it, but found that it was a repeat of the last episode, for example,
you
can't get the corrected episode for your subscription by updating the
feed, even if you deleted the incorrect entry, because as far as
iTunes
is concerned, you already downloaded the latest episode.
2) It also gives you a list of every available podcast episode on the
feed -- not just from the point you started your subscription. (It
doesn't
download these episodes, but just puts an entry in the Songs Outline
list for the podcast so that you can find out the description of that
episode, and download it if you choose to.
If you just want to open all podcast folders at once without resyncing
the feed, use Command+Right Bracket. And to close all podcast
folders at once, use Command+Left Bracket.
This was described in a Mac OS X hints column:

As for your specific example of having something update all podcast
feeds, I don't believe there is an automator action to have itunes do
this. However, there is an updateAllPodcasts apple script command.
