Hi Olivia,

You asked: How do I access the file table?

TK: In an Open or Save dialog, when you navigate around, you will hear things like Open or Cancel buttons, a pop-up menu or two, some Radio buttons, the SideBar and the file Table. The file Table lists the items within the focus area such as the Desktop or any given folder or such things. When you reach the File Table, simply Interact With it and then navigate to locate your desired item or save location.

Hi Scott,

You said: I interacted with the sidebar and went to the network location or at least the root drive of where the file was. Pressing vo\ didn't expand the location and when I pressed command o to open the location so I could file the file I wanted to attach, mail was busy for a very long time. after a while, i force quit the application and there came up a dialog about report this problem or ignore. I pressed ignore and tried several more times but I just can't seem to get this process to work.

TK: the SideBar can be tempramental sometimes. I try not to use it much except when accessing network shares. In many cases, expanding doesn't apply within the SideBar. that is, if you were to select Macintosh HD in the SideBar, expanding it will not occur within the sideBar, you'll have to Stop Interacting with it then navigate to the file Table to select items. Here's a few tricks which may make things easier and quicker for you:

when in Open or Save dialogs:

• cmd-shift-a opens the Applications folder in the file Table.
• cmd-shift-i brings your idisk to the File Table.
• cmd-shift-h brings your Home directory to the file Table.
• cmd-shift-d brings the Desktop to your file Table.
• cmd-shift-c brings your "Computer" to the file Table which will list most items attached to your computer including removable media and network locations.
• cmd-shift-k brings attached network devices to the File Table.
• cmd-shift-u brings the Utilities folder to your file table.

Note that the File Table is a separate entity to the SideBar. the file Table works properly with VO expanding commands and such.

SL: Honestly, I'm feeling that most stuff I try on this thing isn't working right and I wonder why did I leave windows?

TK: I understand your frustration and I believe that it's just taking a little time to get yourself wrapped around a different way of doing things. I am so used to doing things in the Mac environment that I often experience similar frustrations when I have to use Windows. Don't expect everything to fall into place too quickly, some things will, some may take some getting used to. Keep asking questions, we're here to help and I don't believe that there's anyone on this list who doesn't like sharing their knowhow.
