Dear Olivia,

I am not sure to what extent I may be of helpto you but do not despair. I will try to help. When youchoose to create a new message and attach a file to it, you press command + shift + A. This will open a dialogue box which you navigate with vo keys plus right or left arrow. On the left side of the bar as you move from left to right you have the usual keys like close , zoom, forward, I can't remember them all. Then you have a popup button which determines where the application is going to look for the file you want to attach. With popup buttons in Mac, once you land on them, you need only to use your up and down arrow keys to activat them and then arrow up and down the list of choices. With a few others, you need to press VO keys + spacebar to activate them but it is not always necessary. In this popup menu you will have things like downloads, documents and other folders where the computer thinks you might have your file located by default. Choose the one you want, press vo keys + spacebar just in case to confirm it. Once it chosen, you can move to thenext choice. When you hear side bar table, you can arrow up and down it to choose the folder you want. When you arrow up and down the folder list, and you stop on a particular folder, you then move with vo + right arrow to the vertical line and then to file list. Again, arrow down and up it to fine the file you want. You can press the first letter of the file if you know it to get faster to it. Once your arrow is located on it, press vo keys + right arrow to move to the choose file button. Press on it using vo keys + spacebar. The file should then have been attached to your message.

Hope this helps.

Hi Scott,

You said: I interacted with the sidebar and went to the network location or at least the root drive of where the file was. Pressing vo\ didn't expand the location and when I pressed command o to open the location so I could file the file I wanted to attach, mail was busy for a very long time. after a while, i force quit the application and there came up a dialog about report this problem or ignore. I pressed ignore and tried several more times but I just can't seem to get this process to work.

TK: the SideBar can be tempramental sometimes. I try not to use it much except when accessing network shares. In many cases, expanding doesn't apply within the SideBar. that is, if you were to select Macintosh HD in the SideBar, expanding it will not occur within the sideBar, you'll have to Stop Interacting with it then navigate to the file Table to select items. Here's a few tricks which may make things easier and quicker for you:

when in Open or Save dialogs:

• cmd-shift-a opens the Applications folder in the file Table.
• cmd-shift-i brings your idisk to the File Table.
• cmd-shift-h brings your Home directory to the file Table.
• cmd-shift-d brings the Desktop to your file Table.
• cmd-shift-c brings your "Computer" to the file Table which will list most items attached to your computer including removable media and network locations.
• cmd-shift-k brings attached network devices to the File Table.
• cmd-shift-u brings the Utilities folder to your file table.

Note that the File Table is a separate entity to the SideBar. the file Table works properly with VO expanding commands and such.

SL: Honestly, I'm feeling that most stuff I try on this thing isn't working right and I wonder why did I leave windows?

TK: I understand your frustration and I believe that it's just taking a little time to get yourself wrapped around a different way of doing things. I am so used to doing things in the Mac environment that I often experience similar frustrations when I have to use Windows. Don't expect everything to fall into place too quickly, some things will, some may take some getting used to. Keep asking questions, we're here to help and I don't believe that there's anyone on this list who doesn't like sharing their knowhow.

HTH.

Later...
