they actually recommend not using it on your lap for extended periods of time and this is for laptops in general.

It gets warm when emailing and browsing, but not alarmingly so. When playing dvd's, or running constantly for very long periods of time, I've noticed the back of my macbook gets really hot. There's an air vent at the back hinge that churnes out hot air. The bottom of the screen when it is open partially blocks the airway, but I think that's pprobably to keep things from going into the notebook as much as anything else. Durring these times, the bit of chassey t the rear of the keybord get's uncomfortably hot to touch, and it can even be slightly uncomfortable to have the thing on my lap. I've been really cautious of over heating since I nearly burned myself by covering up the bottom vents of a turion notebook and nearly setting my lap on fire, smiles. If there's a tool to measure how hot a macbook gets, let me know and I'll install it and try to give you some quantitative information on just how hot this gets at it's peak.
