Hi Mike,

Are you visiting sites with lots of flash banner content? There was an article on the MacFixIt pages back in the middle of May that described people getting random crashes when browsing due to Adobe Flash player content interacting badly with the code being used on some flash banners. This could lead to the kind of problems that you report -- general crashes at different sites, and not an obvious connection with any Mac system update. It might also depend on the version of Adobe Flash player you have and how it interacts with the code used for the flash banners. Adobe started introducing some security fixes in recent Flash Player releases over the last few months, and some of these have interacted badly with existing web coding for flash banners.

Also, having to repair permissions after installing a new version of Flash Player is apparently a perennial problem, but you've already done that in case this was needed.

Not sure whether this explanation applies to your problem, but if this is the case, it wouldn't matter whether you're using the nightly webkit builds or the regular Safari, since the problem would be tied to Adobe Flash content and how the code for particular flash banners interacts with your version of Flash Player. Also, in general you would see crashes when you visit sites that are likely to display flash banners -- social networking sites rather than banking sites, for example. You could try to reset your browser when you recover (check selected options) or at least clear the cache using the menu options under Safari on the menu bar.

If this sounds like it matches your experience, you can try checking the version of Flash player you have, and checking for problem reports from other users. I think Adobe has a page where Intel Mac users can check their Flash version and troubleshoot problems.

HTH. It's all I can think of,

Cheers,

Esther

That makes it hard to help. Need a reproducible recipe otherwise it's a bit of finding a needle in a haystack.

this ... is... not... making... me... happy... this is like the 22nd or so time this morning i've tryed loading different sites and it... is... getting old! I have webkit installed and have tryed with that and safari, safari will load a few pages, then when i load another one randomly i go to vo up or vo down and vo stops for a few seconds then it brings up the dialog that it has crashed. I've tryed hitting relaunch or whatever it is restart, and then sometimes it asks me if i wanna reset the settings for safari and i've tryed doing it and not doing it. This... Is... Getting... Bloody... Old... and i have no clue why it might be doing this. I havn't installed anything new lately or anything. Any ideas?
