The Firewire 400 connector will feel flat on one of the rectangle's short sides, but beveled on the opposite short side -- you can feel on the connector port where it gets pluggred in that one end is tapered. Don't you have a Mac Mini? I didn't think any of the Mac Minis had Firewire 800 ports -- only USB2 ports and a single Firewire 400 port like the MacBook.
