Hi Nicu!

Are you saying that although Ogg does not play video, it can encode
it in a format that the Helix player can play?

Ogg is a container format in the same vein as avi, mov, 3gp, mkv, rm, etc.

Within that container, one can have different codecs. (RealVideo 10, Theora, Sorenson, etc.)

Most ogg's these days contain audio data encoded with the Vorbis codec (Ogg Vorbis).

There are some files out there which also contain video data encoded with Ogg Theora.

Helix Player supports both Vorbis and Theora codecs, and the ogg container format.

BTW, does anyone know if the Ogg player or the Helix player work in
Windows? I could not tell after visiting their sites.

RealPlayer 10 for Windows is powered by the same media engine that powers RP on Mac, Linux/Qt embedded, Linux/X11, Symbian, Windows, etc. Ogg plugins for helix on windows are available from the xiph foundation, who are members of the helix community.

Last time I checked, you can't play *VIDEO* in Ogg or mp3. *VIDEO* is
the whole point of this conversation. It's not just about including
"useless bloat" of a media player - if you would actually read the
thread - it's about including a way to play a video along with an
Impress presentation.

well, you can enode *VIDEO* in Ogg. this is Ogg Theora, and is one of
the few codecs supported by HelixPlayer by default.
