And no doubt MSFormula is being worked on in Redmond ;)

I think such things are inevitable developments which is why its
important to keep ODF "Open". We would not like one browser to be able
to do it only, or "Best viewed with" <browser name> etc.

This is why I question the philosophy of keeping the "wall of separation" between "office productivity" apps and "communication tools", like browsers and e-mail clients that some on this list seem so adamant about.

The whole rationale for ODF in the first place is to facilitate electronic document exchange and the result seems to be a convergence between the underlying data representation models. If I can inject multimedia elements like pictures, sound, and video as well as interactive elements such as forms fields and hyperlinks into a "document", and that document is represented in a universal, text-based, standardized, format designed to facilitate electronic exchange, how is that fundamentally different from a web page?

Ultimately, it seems to be just a matter of intent on the part of the author.
