Yes, I also use Thunderbird. But I would like to use something that was

Why?

Why? - WHY?

Because it makes *SENSE* to, that's why.

I understand that OpenOffice.org is holy, and perfect, and is not to be
questioned. If something is missing, it *SHOULD* be missing. If something
hogs memory, it *SHOULD* hog memory.

But the simple fact is, people use Outlook everyday. It's got value. It
makes sense that the same words that I use in Word are the same words
in Outlook - therefore, the spell-checker should draw from the same list of
words. [ and so on ]

Yes. To a certain extent you have a point. But if you read some books on software engineering, I think you'll find that they all agree that combining modules with different functionality into one just because they access the same data, is *bad design*. Actually, they may even convince you that OOo as it is today ought to be redesigned so that the "components" are more independent...

What I mean to say is, "more integrated" interfacing with email clients may be desirable, but that does not mean that incorporating the whole client into OOo would be right. Designing a new client designed to interface better with OOo might be good, but I also think writing this would be a waste of valuable development resources, when there are several good emailers out there (better to spend some time on interfacing with those.)

And, incidentally, the Thunderbird mail already client uses the same spell checker as OOo, and hopefully there will be a better way of sharing data between them in the near future.
