Guys,

Michael is simply requesting a proposal to membership to change (or potentially
add to) the sends.
We should treat it as such, we know that it is nobody's particular job to
remind membership to come as we have a standing meeting Tuesday's at 7pm.

Nonetheless it is a valid request. Let's put it to membership's vote.
Therefore I propose to add Michael's request to the next meeting agenda for
voting:
Michael would like to change the bot's reminder time to 24hrs prior.

May I also suggest to keep the tone of these conversations cordial and
professional :)

Best

Markus

We have the bot as a reminder because historically, if we didn't have an email
reminder the day of the meeting then no one would show up. We found a reminder
email the day of goes a long way. Meetings are at 7pm every tuesday. There has
not been an exception to this since our opening day back in May. If you want to
come to a meeting, that's great. However, I don't think it's Trever's or my
responsibility to remind everyone. If you need a reminder the day before, set
your phone to remind you. There's no reason why we should have to reprogram
Phong to remind everyone. We will stick with the system that has worked for us
for the past year.

And I just want to repeat a very key important point: it is NOT Trever's and my
job to annoy people to come to our meetings. Any information you need about the
goings on of the space is on our website. Any more questions or concerns about
this should be sent to me personally. I don't want to spam our whole email list
about this anymore.

Trever, if meetings are every Tuesday, why do we even have the bot reminder at?
if we are going to have the bot reminder, 24 hours is just a little more lead
time, that's all.

Could you have the email reminders go out 24hrs before the next meeting.
Maybe more warning would get more people to show up? Just a thought.

Anyway,
What do you have going on tonight (wed night)?

Proposals
<!--
Proposal format:

* Proposal by --~~~~:

Copy the above example verbatim, and place it immediately below this line. -->
SYN/HAK should be referred to as a makerspace and not a hacker space. by
--76.188.197.165
23:57, 22 October 2012 (EDT): Markus Vogl (written by Penny Golightley)

This reasons for this proposal is as follows:
People are intimidated by the word hacker. This has been observed by a few of
our members when marketing the space and it was even enough of an issue to be
brought up at our WSKU interview. The term makerspace is friendlier to the
general population than hackerspace. Markus told us at the last meeting he
attended that the Chicago makerspace said they had a lot more success with the
term makerspace than hackerspace. This may be a better PR move.
** Nobody will be forced to call it anything.

* Alternative proposal by --Tdfischer 00:13, 23
October 2012 (EDT): We shouldn't have a tagline in any promotional material.
Members should be free to call it what they want.

** Trever believes that the label is a false dichotomy. We shouldn't call it
anything, so it should be called whatever we want. Take off the word
"Hackerspace" out of logos and promotional material. Still up in the air, maybe
"Make Share Create?" Noisebridge - "We spurn the key and lock."

* Membership Responsibilities/Titles/Perks by
--Windcask 14:05, 23 October 2012 (EDT): There's enough going
on (and there will be lots more after we get the space) that it might be time
to talk about membership responsibilities and holding those who hold them to
account. All of us should be equally responsible for the success or failure of
the space as an organization and not rely on certain higher-level members to
move things along. Examples of duties: PR/Social Media presence, custodial
duties, wiki spam cleanup, maintenance and inventory of equipment, speaking
events, demonstrations to the public, etc.

Holding to responsibilities could be accomplished by positive reinforcement of
some kind (special titles, access to VPS services, higher-level trust in
Syn/Hak electronic infrastructure, reduced memberships, etc.).
* "Being awesome to everyone" should be enough to motivate members to pitch in
and help out. Leadership should take the lead in the sharing of
responsibilities. Revisit later when it actually becomes a problem.

* SysAdmin Meetings - Also, proposal for monthly/bi-monthly strategy
meetings involving members and important non-members (relrod for example) to
talk solely about website, social media, and space electronics administration
(servers, lab workstations, door keys, etc.). Could be physical, could be
conference call or IRC chat.
Passed - 60 minutes before meeting last week in month, get computer-inclined
people involved.

Discussion Items
* (Moved to discussion items) * Inventapalooza by Devin : Tagline/address
gets figured out, but Devin will be working out a whole PR campaign and pay for
it.

Meetings are every Tuesday. No need to warn people of something that
happens every week without fail.

Tonight is Open Hacking Night, where people are invited to come in and
make things. Nothing exceptional has been planned.

I plan on working on my D&D table design a bit more by finishing the
player deck, assembling some legs, and working on my control circuitry.
