Famous last words: "The application will only have a one year lifespan and a small number of users."
That usually means that 10 years from now there will be a religion built around the application that encompasses thousands of users daily. The original shortcut code will sit at the middle of it, unchanged.
I can't even tell you how many things that I've "prototyped" as throwaways are now production applications with many users. I know that you have a short period of time, but if I were you I would use every second to make it as solid as you can, in the event that it lasts longer than initially anticipated.

I have until Friday to deliver something... :-(
There will probably only be about 15 users over a one year lifespan so I
don't want to invest to much time or $$. I was just looking to see if a
quick, simple solution existed but it does not seem like it without a
considerable time (and $$ ) investment. Again, thanks to all those that
replied.
Hopefully, I can make it out Wednesday.
