I don't think we need the jakarta stuff in the build process. It's way too complicated for what we need, so I'll all for cleaning that up. +1
As far as refactoring goes, I think we're actually in the process of considering several code bases at this point. I'm hoping we can come to some consensus and then move forward with a completly refactored code base. This will probably require many more unit tests as well.
