It was certainly comprehensive. Thank you :-) About gettext's shortcomings... I think it's so widely used that it's probably possible to work around them whenever they appear. I'm not saying the gettext API is pretty, though (especially the clumsy catalog management commands). By the way, the Babel library on PyPI may at least render some of that stuff a bit easier to deal with.
