I haven't benchmarked, but my suspicion is that their performance should be about equivalent. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if FastCGI was faster. SCGI should give great performance too. The problem is that neither FastCGI or SCGI are likely to be available on most cheap shared hosting packages - hence you would have to use regular CGI instead.
