If your mail reader reformats text, IMHO it's broken. At a minimum, it ought to give you the option of seeing a message without "helpfully" reformatting it.
I see little harm in asking (politely) that people go through the significant hassle of posting code in two places (one of which may be inaccessible at the moment of posting) just to work around broken mailers and the preference of some readers for multicolored code.
