While I get the desirability of using mysql for development,, when starting out it is way easier to use the built in sql-lite.. works great and no config hassles. I now use both but wish I had not wasted too much time on the mysql config.. Just my 2cents worth..Sorry I don't have the time to find my config, for mysql right now,, it works fine on windows vista64.. but for the most part now I just use sqllite for dev then deploy with mysql.
