I prefer giving 'stems' to mastering houses, rather than complete mixes,
though this is more important when working with pop, rock, and other 'vocal'
oriented music - where one particular element is more important than all the
rest. A drum and base stem would probably be a complete split down :>

>From my experience, 99% of all mastering 'challenges' could be fixed simply
by going back one step to mixdown. If I had my d'ruthers, the mastering
engineer would be work iteratively with the mixer, instead of dealing with
everything after the fact. Unfortunatley, this takes more work and time.

I'd like to ask: why are you using an external cd recorder, rather than a
pc? I've never understood the logic of these units.
