A Windows OS DLL (98 first edition on up - Yes I said Win98FE as it's faster than W2K etc and just as stable if you know what you are doing) would be an acceptable implementation for me. But at the end of the day a poorly documented and/or structured DLL is no different than a poorly documented and/or structured API. Again we're potentially back to using layers/abstractions to move the fundamental problem around - An intelectual shell game if you will.

If the DLL is well structured (I've seen DLL's with OS version and language Bias before .... Making them useless for my needs) and well documented then this is great! And of course Tucows would not have to change the "low level API" to suite the needs of people like me. :)
