Excuse me for being thick here - but can we still register .eu domains during the sunrise period for companies with supporting documentation?
On the other note, I would agree with Enrico, our clients are asking for this service. Not providing it will probably make some look at alternate registrars. There is already a lot of hype about the .eu domain name and pre-registration adverts are everywhere. As you say, disappointing clients is no way to keep their business but that assumes the domains they want are competitive. If they are not, surely all we are doing is driving customers into the arms of other providers? However I accept it can be hard for you to differentiate between competitive and uncompetitive domains. Could you possible explain the 'landrush' a little more? If we are not providing pre-registration to our existing clients we will have to explain what steps we are taking to get their domain name? Do we queue these up in the API just before the opening? Someone says "hey, what incoming do you expect from .eu domain when there are people selling them for 2 euros", I reply that there are customers who are most interested in services behind the domain and that would pay much more than 2 euros. It's the market. We have customers that ask us almost every day about this. About the consortium, I agree it's a good idea, but I prefer to stay on solutions that I'm sure will be there in next years. > Manageability & Scaled Risk: Adding levels of complexity regarding > vendors is something that Tucows likes to worry about for you, giving [...] > pondering a consortium or going at it alone. We're running registration > facilities not lotteries. well...maybe you look at preregistrations from the backend perspective, but we receive mails and call phone from customers asking us for this service and are ready to pay just to try. For the majority of domains it is not a lottery...maybe it will be for sex.eu, but not for all others. I hope tucows will rethink about the fact that customers look at preregistrations more like a service than a lottery. -- **************************************************************************** *** Si invita a non inviare email a questa casella per problemi tecnici, altrimenti in caso di assenza nessuno la leggerebbe ed il problema rimarrebbe insoluto.
