I guess this post didn't really excite anyone, zero feedback ;)

Well I'd like to officially register my interest in having SRV records in
the Tucows Managed DNS system. I'll lay out why I think these could be
really useful for us as resellers. I'm hardly the leading authority on DNS
so let me know if I'm missing something here.

SRV records let you determine priority and weight given to a number of A
records (in the same way as MX records). This means we could offer
affordable load balancing or site fall over plans for our clients. I'm not
talking large scale clustering and redundancy but simply being able to offer
a solution for small business clients. In the event their hosting failed,
their customers would be presented with a contact page / or a copy of the
static web site. I know synchronizing databases is another issue but for
small businesses it's more about having an explanation for their clients and
contact details.

Selling 'insurance' hosting could be extremely good business for us. We're
not asking our clients to move host, this is an additional service sold to
those who already have hosting. Rather a large market there. Of course this
would only sell if backed up by the kind of reliability that you are
building into the Tucows DNS service. This seems like a great way to build
on that?

The other interesting function of SRV is being able to tie A records to
ports, allowing us to offer domain addresses for VoIP (i.e. ring me on
mydomain.com or phone.mydomain.com on their web site). This is a fast
growing market and it seems sensible that people will want to use their own
domains as their 'phone numbers' in the future.

Subject: [domains-gen] rrset-order/SRV records in MDNS

Are there any plans in the future to add rrset-order or SRV records to the
Managed DNS service?

It would be great to build on the reliability of this service and offer our
clients a low-cost solution for server/site failure.
