Jonathon Ernst mentioned that he managed to get refunds for ALL the bought and paid for licensed software pre-installed on his HP. That included MacAfee Anti-Virus. The Acer 5735z normally comes with the following pre-installed :- Acer Empowering Technology (Acer eAudio, ePower, eDataSecurity, eRecovery, eSettings Management) Acer Arcade Deluxe featuring Cinema, Album, Music, Acer HomeMedia Acer GridVista Acer Launch Manager Acer GameZone Acer Video Conference Manager McAfee Internet Security Suite 60-day trial version CyberLink PowerDirector trial version Adobe Reader NTI Media Maker Microsoft Works 8.5 with Office Home and Student 2007 Trial The Trial versions will be free, the Acer software will probably be claimed as "val ue adding free software", but the NTI Media Maker sounds like it's being paid for. If they are goinf to wipe the disk, then you will obviously lose any chance of any further refunds, so don't miss out, claim for everything you can and let us all know how you get on ! > You have to wonder why, in this age of DVDs and USB memory cards and > memory sticks, manufacturers can't ship their wares with MS operating > systems in a sealed bag on bootable media which you can then send back, > seal intact for a refund, or install (either yourself or by request at > the point of purchase). I agree with the principle of what you're saying, but the manufacturers will just claim that they are trying to make it easier for their customers to get it working "out of the box", they don't care about our right to choose what we want on their equipment, they just want to shift boxes. Good luck with your claim. -- Cheers Peter -- Dorset LUG: http://dorset.lug.org.uk/ irc://irc.blitzed.org:6667/dorset List info: https://mailman.lug.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/dorset Next meeting: Bournemouth, Wednesday 2009-04-01 20:00
