Over the weekend my old USB external hard drive popped its clogs so I purchased
new external 1.5tb hard drive. I hooked it up to my PC running Mepis 8 (Debian
Lenny) and then ran gparted on the hard drive splitting it into three
partitions

sdc1 465gb ntfs
sdc2 440gb ext3
sdc3 491gb ext3

But now I have a couple of problems, first, as soon as I turn the PC on it
places an expansion drive (which is the name of the drive) icon on the desktop
which is sdc1, there is no references to sdc in my fstab file, how can I stop
this.

I inadvertently made a desktop icon to sdc1 (I had meant to make it to sdc3)
and
renamed the icon "pictures" (to represent what the partition holds). But now I
am unable to delete the icon, I can mount the device from the icon, I can't
unmount the device from the icon I have to do that from the command line using
the -f option.

Now when I look at the properties of the expansion desktop icon and sdc3 they
are complete different, the expansion drive icon only has three tabs, General,
meta info and mounting, but on sdc3 I have 5 tabs, general, permissions,
device, meta info, preview. What I would like is to have the mounting tab
available on sdc3 so that I can set some of the mounting parameters.

Anybody got any suggestions?

Tim
